Schematic diagram of an average PSD (360 nm diameter) and surrounding extrasynaptic membrane viewed “en face” from the cleft side.Within the PSD (shaded gray), AMPARs, NMDARs, and PSD-95 family molecules are shown roughly at scale and at the stoichiometry calculated from data in Reference 70. AMPARs and NMDARs are also present in the extrasynaptic membrane.
