Three Sisters Falls and Eagle Peak

Error creating thumbnail: File missing

This hike requires a certain amount of experience and conditioning. The trail down to the falls isn't an official Forest Service trail. It is very steep (think Cedar Creek Falls via Ramona, but steeper), and there is 12' "cliff" that must be up/down climbed.

Lots of hand/foot holds and an old rope, however. Heading back up, there's roughly a 700' gain in elevation in about 1/2 a mile--it's steep!!! Once down to the stream, you have to hike about a 1/2 mile to the falls, requiring some bouldering. To get to the upper falls, you must be fairly agile--the trails are more akin to bighorn paths than trails.

DETAILS
  • Distance: 7 miles RT
  • Elev. gain/loss: 2200'
  • Difficulty: 3+ including nontechnical climbing
  • Hiking time: 5-6 hours
  • 2 liters of water, snacks/lunch, footwear with traction

Cedar Creek Falls AKA The Devils Punchbowl

Hike Cedar Falls to enjoy a nice hike through the hills of Eastern San Diego. Be rewarded with waterfalls cascading into a pool below. Swim in the pool beneath the falls. The 100 foot high Cedar Falls is located southwest of Julian. You can make a day of it and stop for apple pie in Julian after your hike.

The best time to hike to Cedar Falls is in the spring when the falls will be at their peak and wildflowers are blooming. There is a swimming hole at the bottom of the falls where you can enjoy a swim.

This can be a beautiful hike. Cedar Creek is a tributary of the San Diego River. There are a number of small falls in the area with Cedar Falls being the largest. Black oak, cedar, and cottonwood trees are common in the area.
