Miren:TestDoc001 outsideletters
UPDATE [OUTSIDE LETTERS for Promotion, Career review, Step VI & Advancement to above scale (now included in the advanced notice email as of 2017)] – External Referee Recommendations: [Step VI: You have the option of including external referee letters for your file. If you wish to have external referee letters, let Miren know as soon as possible.] Please provide a list of up to three [five if tenure promotion] individuals from whom the Department may solicit letters regarding your advancement. This list will be taken into consideration by the department when it selects the external referees for your file. Some of the referees will be drawn from your list, and some will be independently chosen by the department. Your file must include a minimum number of independent letters, that is, from external referees who are senior scholars (your level or higher) and are independent of you (not to include your advisor and/or others you have collaborated with). If justified, some letters may be non-independent letters, that is, from external referees who are senior scholars (your level or higher) and may include your advisor and/or others you have collaborated with; however, these may not contribute to the minimum number of independent letters needed.
Please provide names and a link to their web page (or addresses, telephone number, and e-mail address if not available online). In addition, please provide at least two sentences explaining the qualifications of the individuals. You may also provide to the Chair the names of individuals who, for reasons described by you, you feel might not objectively evaluate your qualifications and performance. If you do provide such a statement, it will be included in your review file.
– Materials to external referees: Please provide a copy of your CV, selected publications and, optionally, a research or personal statement. These materials will be provided to referees. Please indicate if you would like any other materials made available to reviewers (e.g. teaching evals, link to your website). IF LPSOE/LSOE: Please provide a copy of your CV, teaching statement and/or teaching portfolio as well as any course related materials, syllabi, evidence of teaching excellence, teaching-related grant proposals, and/or products of research or other professional activities you may wish to include. These materials will be provided to referees. Please indicate if you would like any other materials made available to reviewers (e.g. link to your website).
[STUDENT LETTERS for Career Review, Promotion, Step VI, Advancement to above scale] - Student Letter Writers: Please provide a list of ~5 students who the Department can reach out to for teaching letters. They can be past/present mentees/students you have worked with, including postdocs, grads, undergrads, TAs, lab managers and research assistants. Please provide their names and email addresses as well as a brief note about the capacity in which you have worked with each student.
